Eat. Drink. Adopt. – World’s first dog tap house

The only thing better than enjoying a good drink at the bar is enjoying a good drink at the bar surrounded by dogs. Now you finally can with what’s being billed as the “world’s first dog tap house.”

Fido’s Tap House is located in Tigard, Oregon (near Portland) and the concept is simple: combine 40 taps of craft beer, cider and wine with a bunch of good puppers and doggos from a nearby rescue shelter. Dog-centric art hangs from the walls, and TVs play dog videos on repeat. Next to the bar, there’s a “day room” where people can play with or adopt dogs from the Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals (OFOSA) charity. It’s like a dog-friendly bar, but times 10. It all sounds cool as heck, and 14/10 this is the best bar in Oregon.

But where some see joy, others see danger—namely, allowing people to adopt dogs after one too many drinks. Not to worry because founder Scott Porter thought of that, and you can’t just walk out with a pup. “We don’t want anybody here with a couple drinks, then you wake up in the morning with a leash in your hand and somebody licking your face,” Porter told Willamette Week. After finding your new pal, Fido’s follows the OFOSA adoption policies of having the dog meet every family member and scheduling a meeting with an adoption counselor.

In addition to helping with adoptions, Fido’s is donating a quarter of the profits from the taproom to rescue charities, and dog-focused nonprofits can hold events at the bar for free. Fido’s had a soft opening on February 1 and will open to the general public on February 13 at 11 a.m. No word if one of the taps is Aldi’s dog beer, but the canines from the soft launch still look like they had a jolly good time.

Now go forth and find your new best friend at the bar.
